Disneyland Resort parks have 14 venues and one show that are temporarily closed during May, mostly for major makeovers or special events.

Many of the projects are ending this month as the two parks -- Disneyland and Disney California Adventure -- prepare for the summer season.

Along Disneyland's Rivers of America, four attractions and the Fantasmic! Show are shut down for preparations of the "Pirates of the Caribbean - On Stranger Tides" movie premiere. Crews are erecting a screen and seating for the 3D viewing of the movie set for Saturday. The fourth installment in the series opens in theaters May 20.

The river attractions are: Sailing Ship Columbia, Mark Twain Riverboat, Davy Crockett's Explorer Canoes and Tom Sawyer's Island.

Disney is finishing up a couple of long-term projects:

-The revamped Star Tours officially is set to debut June 3 in Disneyland, but the ride is expected to hold soft openings or previews in May. No dates have been announced.

-Goofy's Sky School, formerly Mulholland Madness, in Disney California Adventure is scheduled to officially reopen June 3.

-Splash Mountain in Disneyland has been undergoing major renovations since January. The thrill ride is set to come back May 27.

In California Adventure, crews are converting a dining and shopping complex in the Paradise Pier area, which is expected to open this summer.

Other Disneyland venues that are closed for part of May are: Star Trader store, Gadget's Go Coaster ride, Stage Door Café and The Golden Horseshoe restaurant.
